Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani Movie Review

Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani
Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is a delightful tale of love that transcends boundaries. The story revolves around Rocky, a vibrant and boisterous Punjabi boy, and Rani, an educated and sophisticated Bengali television news anchor. Despite their stark differences, fate brings them together, and they fall deeply in love. However, their families are against their union, prompting the couple to come up with a clever plan. They decide to live in each other's homes for three months, hoping to bridge the gap between their cultures and win their families' approval before taking their relationship to the next level.

The film bursts into life with a dazzling dance number featuring top Bollywood stars like Varun Dhawan, Sara Ali Khan, Janhvi Kapoor, and Ananya Pandey alongside Ranveer Singh. This sets the stage for a family drama filled with color, entertainment, and glamour, typical of a Karan Johar production. However, beneath the glitz, there lies a meaningful message. The movie subtly addresses deep-rooted societal issues like patriarchy, gender bias, misogyny, body shaming, and cancel culture. It skillfully weaves these themes into the narrative, balancing humor and social commentary without overwhelming the story.

Ranveer Singh is perfectly cast as the lively and caring Rocky, whose understanding of gender equality is influenced by his upbringing. His witty one-liners and confident portrayal bring charm to the character, and he handles the character arc with finesse. Alia Bhatt shines as Rani, a strong and self-assured woman, but some critics note that her Bengali accent could have been better.

Jaya Bachchan impresses as the matriarch of the family, displaying a multi-dimensional character with grace and finesse. Shabana Azmi delivers a flawless performance, seamlessly transitioning between Bengali and Hindi accents. Dharmendra's brief yet impactful role adds to the movie's enjoyment, and Aamir Bashir's portrayal of Rocky's misogynistic father is powerful.

The film's music, composed by Pritam, stands out with catchy songs like "What Jhumka?" and "Dhindhora Baja Re," along with the romantic track "Tum Kya Mile." The visual presentation is dazzling, thanks to Manush Nandan's expertise as the director of photography. Ishita Moitra's witty dialogues add to the entertainment.

While the story takes some time to build momentum in the first half, the second half gains pace, offering plenty of laughter along the way. The plot is straightforward and familiar, leading to a predictable yet heartwarming climax. The movie subtly showcases societal progress when Rocky's parents seek Rani's hand in marriage, reversing the traditional gender roles.

In essence, Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani is an entertaining and heartwarming love story wrapped in a glitzy package. It not only entertains but also carries a profound message about the importance of family and love.
